Ceramic garden stools are one of those decorating pieces that can move from room to room and still make sense. I love them because they add color, pattern and a little shine without taking up much space.
Despite the name, they are not just for the garden. A garden stool can work as a side table, plant stand, bath-side perch or extra surface almost anywhere in the house.
Garden Stool Decor Ideas
- Next to an outdoor chair: use one as a compact drink table on a patio or porch.
- Between two lounge chairs: perfect when a full-size side table would feel too bulky.
- Beside a bathtub: a ceramic stool gives you a place for a towel, candle or book.
- As a plant stand: especially pretty with trailing greenery or a potted orchid.
- Under a console: tuck one or two underneath for color and visual interest.
- Next to a sofa: an easy way to add a small side table without committing to more furniture.

How to Choose a Garden Stool
Think about color first. Blue and white works almost anywhere, green feels fresh in garden spaces, and a solid white or cream stool is easy to move between rooms.
Look at the shape. A flat top is more useful if you plan to use it as a side table. More sculptural shapes are better when the stool is mainly decorative.
Check whether it is suitable outdoors. Ceramic itself handles outdoor use well, but finishes vary. If you plan to leave it outside year-round, check the manufacturer’s care instructions and protect it from hard freezes.
Garden Stool FAQ
Can a ceramic garden stool be used as a side table?
Yes. That is one of my favorite ways to use one. They are especially useful in tight spaces where a larger table would feel crowded.
Can garden stools stay outside?
Many ceramic garden stools are made for outdoor use, but freezing temperatures can be hard on some finishes. Check the care instructions for your specific stool.
Where do garden stools look best indoors?
Bathrooms, sunrooms, bedrooms, living rooms and entryways are all good options. They work especially well when you need a small surface plus a little color or pattern.
