Amazon Home Decor Finds

March 7, 2023

I love a good high-low mix, and Amazon can be surprisingly good for the finishing pieces that make a room feel more pulled together without blowing the budget.

I am usually looking for things that work with a more collected, traditional-meets-coastal home: woven textures, blue and white accents, warm metals, classic shapes, simple lighting and pieces that look more expensive than they are.

Amazon Home Decor Finds Worth Looking For

  • Decorative objects: boxes, trays, bowls and small sculptural pieces for shelves and coffee tables.
  • Lighting: table lamps and picture lights can change the mood of a room quickly.
  • Pillows and throws: an easy way to bring in color and pattern without a permanent change.
  • Blue and white accents: ginger jars, planters and ceramics work especially well in traditional spaces.
  • Storage: woven baskets and decorative bins can make practical pieces feel intentional.
  • Outdoor accents: lanterns, planters and small tables are easy ways to finish a porch or patio.

How I Shop Amazon for Home Decor

I pay attention to dimensions. Product photos can make something look much larger than it is, especially lamps, vases and artwork.

I read the review photos. They are often more useful than the listing images for judging color, scale and finish.

I look for materials first. Linen-look fabric, ceramic, wood, woven fibers and metal usually read better than very shiny plastic finishes.

I avoid buying a whole room from one place. Amazon works best for filling gaps rather than making everything match.

Easy Ways to Make Affordable Decor Look Better

  • Use fewer, larger accessories instead of lots of tiny pieces.
  • Mix new finds with antiques, books and personal objects.
  • Repeat one finish, like brass or woven texture, in a few places.
  • Choose pillows with removable covers whenever possible.
  • Style practical items in trays or baskets so they feel intentional.

Amazon Home Decor FAQ

Is Amazon good for home decor?

It can be, especially for smaller accents, lighting, baskets, pillows and outdoor pieces. The key is checking dimensions, materials and customer photos before ordering.

How do you make Amazon decor look less generic?

Mix it with vintage pieces, original art, books and furniture you already own. A few affordable accents can work really well when the whole room is not sourced from the same place.

What home decor should you avoid buying online?

I am more cautious with anything where color, comfort or scale is hard to judge, such as large upholstered furniture or rugs without clear close-up photos and measurements.

Garden Stool Decor Ideas: How to Use Ceramic Stools Indoors and Out

March 18, 2021

Ceramic garden stools are one of those decorating pieces that can move from room to room and still make sense. I love them because they add color, pattern and a little shine without taking up much space.

Despite the name, they are not just for the garden. A garden stool can work as a side table, plant stand, bath-side perch or extra surface almost anywhere in the house.

Garden Stool Decor Ideas

  • Next to an outdoor chair: use one as a compact drink table on a patio or porch.
  • Between two lounge chairs: perfect when a full-size side table would feel too bulky.
  • Beside a bathtub: a ceramic stool gives you a place for a towel, candle or book.
  • As a plant stand: especially pretty with trailing greenery or a potted orchid.
  • Under a console: tuck one or two underneath for color and visual interest.
  • Next to a sofa: an easy way to add a small side table without committing to more furniture.

How to Choose a Garden Stool

Think about color first. Blue and white works almost anywhere, green feels fresh in garden spaces, and a solid white or cream stool is easy to move between rooms.

Look at the shape. A flat top is more useful if you plan to use it as a side table. More sculptural shapes are better when the stool is mainly decorative.

Check whether it is suitable outdoors. Ceramic itself handles outdoor use well, but finishes vary. If you plan to leave it outside year-round, check the manufacturer’s care instructions and protect it from hard freezes.

Garden Stool FAQ

Can a ceramic garden stool be used as a side table?

Yes. That is one of my favorite ways to use one. They are especially useful in tight spaces where a larger table would feel crowded.

Can garden stools stay outside?

Many ceramic garden stools are made for outdoor use, but freezing temperatures can be hard on some finishes. Check the care instructions for your specific stool.

Where do garden stools look best indoors?

Bathrooms, sunrooms, bedrooms, living rooms and entryways are all good options. They work especially well when you need a small surface plus a little color or pattern.
